How to date a Brazilian guy
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
So, for just one moment take yourself back to those balmy high school days where the first feelings of teenage l’amour filled the sweet air. The simplicity of love when at it’s at its most pure; shy giggles and endless flirting. You with your group of girlies, and him there with his boys. A quick glance over now and then to see if he’s watching you, then a little smile and laugh to hold his attention. Welcome to Latin love, it’s well, lovely.

Dating in Brazil is fabulous fun. Once a Brazilian man falls for you here, it’s compliment city. He loves your every move, the smell of your hair and the colour of your eyes (especially if they’re blue). You feel like a princess, albeit for the present moment. Latin love is fast, but not long lasting. The boy who is the love of your life one day can disappear without trace, nor text the next.

So once you are here and feeling the enormity of love that Brazilians want to share with you, lest us not forget one thing – this is a macho society, so you’ve got to keep yourself looking very much like a girl. Brazilian men love a dress, long hair, high heels (but not too high, ‘cos some of them a quite short, and you don’t want to scare them) and a cheeky smile. Life’s fun here and that includes the dating.

Sultry seduction is the name of the game, street corners barely lit, the sweltering heat, music and lack of clothing add to the romance. It’s easy to fall in love here. Rio de Janeiro is a fabulous melting pot of people. If you like dark-skinned Latino’s this is your place.

Now you’ve found your beautiful boy be prepared for the kissing – the girls and I have had a few funny conversations about this and the majority of us Gringa’s here in Brazil are not that impressed with the Brazilian snog! Sorry Brazilian guys, but it’s kind of sloppy and a bit like being greeted by your parents’ over-enthusiastic dog. They love to call passion; we’ve called it ‘The Slobbery Slurp’. It’s meant as affectionate, and it is, but also can feel a bit like you are being eaten alive, hence the comparisons here between eating and romance ‘vou te comer’ (I’m going to eat you!) is a phrase used all to willingly here.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Careful of one thing though, the little green man might rear his ugly head if you’re not careful. Jealousy is likely to be high on your list of emotions if you get caught up in the love wrangle. The word faithful doesn’t mean the same here, it’s more of a ‘what you don’t know won’t hurt you’ or ‘as long as no-one dies it’s okay, right’.Well, yes, it’s all fine as long as you’re prepared for it and like the Brazilians don’t take your dating too seriously. Otherwise you may find your newly manicured fingers burnt.

There’s been many a Gringa here, crying on a street corner with a group of friends around her offering up supportive advice. Just remember to keep your expectations in check and your priorities set to fun.

It’s completely true. Just one observation: vou te comer has nothing to do with romance. It’s pure fuck, and it may be taken as rude if out of context
Too true – o anjo Gabriel *sigh*!
I’m a Brazilian guy and I kind of got really frustrated by some things written on here. Per example the quote bellow:
The word faithful doesn’t mean the same here, it’s more of a ‘what you don’t know won’t hurt you’ or ‘as long as no-one dies it’s okay, right’
Where on Earth such thing won’t happen? There are cheaters everywhere including girls not just men. I lived in US for 5 years and I saw things that I have never seen here so many things written on here can be relative. Unfidelity happens eveywhere, in every country not just here!
I’m a 30 year old caring and sincere guy who believes in true love and also that there is someone out there to complete you and make you happy. You guys generalize things, it’s absolutely non sense with all due respect.
